The Resident Evil Remake probably remains the scariest game I've ever played, owing in big part to the increased difficulty, the revived Crimson Head zombies and Lisa Trevor. It stops being scary about halfway through and you mostly end up fighting loads of samey looking enemies repeatedly, and you'll be well prepared with weapons and ammo to handle them. I thought the scares and horror in RE7 was particularly effective in the first half (aside from a few of those "here's something jumping right into your face" scenes that horror movies have been using for cheap scares for decades). So I guess my question is, what did you all think about how scary Resident Evil 7 is? Also, does the rest of the game feature the same kind of pop-out, unexpected scares like I described, or does it evolve into a more atmospheric, PT-style horror? But fucking Baker keeps coming back randomly, crashing through walls like the Kool-Aid man, and I just can't handle it. I fought Baker in the garage, and now I'm looking for something to replace the shotgun on the statue so I can get out of that area. I wanted to test myself, and I think deep down prove to myself that I could handle scary games like everyone else. Now, the reason I picked up RE7 is because most of my sources say it's a particularly scary game. Whereas games, if I fail, especially in games with save points like RE7, it could actually affect my playing experience and force me to re-live the trauma from the beginning of the mission. I can handle scary movies, I think because I don't have any control over the outcome. I'm just a total pussy when it comes to scary games. I consider Zombi U the scariest game I've ever played. That changed in June last year, when a small group of players-including Sounak “KTGO" Mukherjee, Raunak “Vizrd" Sudhakar, and Arnab “ass_kickerwa" Chakraborty-found each other in the YouTube comments sections of Age of Empires gameplay videos. And, in the absence of an organized Indian community, those who do, struggle to find fellow Indians to play with. But few continue playing after they graduate. That’s where most people get introduced to the competitive side of the game, playing against each other in computer science labs and over hostel LANs. In India, the biggest incubator for Age of Empires players has been the college campus. And this time around, the AoE India community is determined to ensure that Indian players make their presence felt in the international community. This is all to say that 19 years after its release, Age of Empires II is in the middle of an extraordinary revival. Three expansions followed, and last year Microsoft announced that they were working on a definitive edition, with 4K graphics, a remastered soundtrack and improved gameplay. These efforts were rewarded in 2013, when Microsoft brought modders-turned-developers Forgotten Empires on board to release a high-definition remaster of the original. When the official multiplayer servers went offline in 2006, players found alternatives in third- party multiplayer networks like GameRanger and current favourite Voobly. When Ensemble Studios shifted attention to newer iterations of the game-before being shut down by Microsoft in 2009-they took up the mantle of refining the game and adding new content through fan-created patches and mods. By 2010, the RTS game had retreated from centre stage, replaced by first-person shooters and role-playing games.īut Age of Empires II never truly went away, kept alive by a small global community of fans. Sadly, it was also the genre’s high watermark. But it was Ensemble Studios’ Age Of Empires franchise-and in particular the critically acclaimed Age of Empires II-that represents the pinnacle of the genre. The early 2000s saw the release of a number of seminal RTS titles, including Rise Of Nations, Command & Conquer: Generals and StarCraft. That was the golden era of the real-time strategy (RTS) game, a subgenre of strategy video games where the action takes place in real time rather than the conventional turn-based gameplay. The last time I played Age of Empires II was in the early 2000s, a few years after its release in 1999. To be fair, I’m not quite sure what I had in mind going in. When I received the invitation to attend a LAN party hosted by the Mumbai chapter of AoE India-an underground gaming community dedicated to a 19-year-old strategy video game-this wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. It’s all a little Silicon-Valley-meets-football-hooligans, the boisterous atmosphere belying the sheer geekery of the conversation. When the game finally ends, everyone troops out to the balcony to thump the winner on the back and immediately fall into a jargon-heavy discussion about tactics. ![]() The other people in the room have no such problems though, and for the next 25 minutes the energy never lets up. The Rockstar Games EULA does say players can't "cheat or utilize any unauthorized robot, spider, or other program in connection with any online features of the Software" or "violate any terms, policies, licenses, or code of conduct for any online features of the Software." That wording is vague enough that it could apply to the creation of online workarounds like FiveM, but thus far it seems that merely using the mod has not drawn Rockstar's ire. That statement against cheating wouldn't seem to apply to the FiveM mod, which allows for online play wholly outside the infrastructure for the core GTA Online experience.
